Today was the first day of holding reading groups. It was more of setting up the groups and teaching others how to work independently while reading is going on. Eventually, this will be the time where kids are writing, and the parent volunteers are editing with them while I conduct each

reading group. I will ask that the volunteers start on Monday, October 1st. Below is the schedule for volunteers. I ask that if you can't make your week, that you try and ask someone to fill in for you.

Yesterday, we started discussing our year long theme of Celebrations and Traditions. The students worked in teams of four to identify different celebrations that they know of. I then asked to think about traditions that go with these celebrations. It is with this in mind that we will look at a variety of local, state, and federal celebrations and traditions throughout the school year. After the activity I read the students a book about apples and we discussed the celebration of the apple harvest adn the traditions that people do relating to apples and the harvest. Needless to say, this is the reason for the orchard trip on Friday.
Reminders:
*Book Orders are due by Friday. Please make all checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs
*The Apple Orchard Field Trip is this Friday. We have a few chaperones but any and all are welcome. Your child will need a snack that day. We will be back by lunch. Please dress accordingly and boots are suggested.
*Open house is next Tuesday at 5:30. This is a time for the students to show you the room, their work, and a chacne for you to meet the specialist teachers.
*Homework bags and books should be returned each day.
I hope you have a great day. I will be at a math curriculum meeting on Thursday afternoon. This means the students will have Mr. Ryan for math class. We have Guidance at the end of the day and Ms. Babic will be there for the guidance class.
