August 29, 2016: First Day of School

Good Afternoon,

We had a great start to the year.  The morning started with a quick assembly in the gym.  The students were entertained by the sounds of Olivia White, a former Waitsfield Elementary School alum.  Ms. Korb spoke to the students about growing and using the resources at their disposal to develop into the best student they can be.

As a class, we spent a lot of the day getting to know each other, learning basic expectations how we handle ourselves in the hallway, lunchroom, and at recess.  The students explored the use of pencils, erasers, and crayons through a practice called Guided Discovery.  Mrs. Jane read the book The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Drywalt.  The day ended with the students going to PE class.

Notes:

*Your child has a plastic bag with forms to fill out.  Please send the items back tomorrow.  The plastic bag should come back each day.  I will use the bag to put any notes or homework that your child might have.  This way you don't have to search their backpacks for things.

*Inside the plastic bag is a form to fill out if you would like your child to get a subscription to the magazine Highlights.

I hope your child had a fun first day.  I look forward to a great year.

Peace,
Tommy
