Good Morning,
Today we spent the morning outside in the garden and will spend the afternoon enjoying the simple pleasures of Field Day.  I hope everyone enjoyed the biography videos.

On Friday, I will be providing pizza for lunch.  I just ask that the kids bring their own drinks.  We will be eating around 11:00.  I am ordering cheese pizza.  If your child doesn't like pizza, please have him/her bring a lunch.

I wanted to again thank everyone for the past two years.  It has been an absolute pleasure working with and getting to know the students of this class.  I am so proud of this group and they are a joy to be a part of.  I think that I have watched the slide show 20 times since last week.  I would also like to thank everyone for the very generous gifts.  I hope you all have a wonderful summer and hope we can stay in touch.

Peace,
Tom

Good Morning,

I am actually writing this Sunday evening as I watch the basketball game.  We have a pretty busy week ahead of us and I wanted to outline the week for you.

Monday:  We will finish our sight word test that we started last week.  Students will also continue to work on their final book project.  This will be an ungraded project but one that continues to work on comprehension skills, while allowing me to do more testing this week.

Tuesday:  I will administer a paragraph dictation test. We will have one more play rehearsal before the evening event.  Please be in the gym by 6pm.

Wednesday:  We will be going to Oak Ledge Park.  We do have a shelter that we rented in case the weather is less than desirable.  Please make sure your child has a packed lunch for that day.  If you are a chaperone, please be at the school by 8:00.

Thursday:  I will be in the building but will have a substitute.  I will be testing kids on their reading ability.  Kids will also be planting in the garden (if it is not raining).

Friday:  We will finish up our garden planting and working on our plant life cycle posters.

*Throughout the week the kids will be learning how the plant works as a system and how each part works.

*Again, there is no assigned homework this week or next, however I do encourage kids to read a few evenings a week.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the performance Tuesday evening.  We will start the evening with the performance, then have dinner, followed by a slide-show and a few comments from me.

Have a great week!
Tom

Good Morning,
The play was fabulous.  The students did a wonderful job and everyone seemed quite happy with his/her part.  Today we worked more on our plant experiment and wrote in our Weekly News Journals.  This afternoon we took the first part of our Sight Word test.

*This week marked the end of the Weekly News Entries and homework.  Your child should keep his/her Weekly News Journal at home.  Although homework is done, I still encourage your child to read during the week.

I hope you all have a nice weekend.
Peace,
Tom

Good Afternoon,
Today we used our homework information to add to our day long timeline.  The students are learning how to sequence and look at elapsed time.  During reading groups, two of the teams focused on long vowel spellings with the silent "e."  The other group worked on writing cursive "m" and "n."  This afternoon we rehearsed our play.  Mrs. Davis finished the scenery and hats for the children to wear.

Friday's Presentation:  The children should go right to the gym on Friday (they can drop off their bags in the classroom).  I will meet them in the gym.  Students don't need to wear specific clothing but the girls could wear dresses/skirts and the boys could wear buttoned down shirts.  Again, this is totally optional.  I want your kids to be comfortable and not stressed about this.

I hope you have a great day.
Peace,
Tom
