Good Afternoon,
I hope you have a wonderful vacation/break.  I am hoping the time away will help rid the class of all of the illnesses.  I will see you in March.  Don't forget to vote on the school budget.

Peace,
Tom

Good Morning,
I am very sorry for not posting on Monday.  I was home sick with the dreaded stomach bug.  It is slowly working its way around our house.  Today the students had their last session with the people from Bread and Puppet.  Tomorrow, we will have an all school rehearsal and an afternoon performance around 1:45.  We will not need sour scheduled parent volunteer tomorrow.  The rehearsal will be going on during this time.  I have not sent reading home this week, because I have been assessing each students reading ability. This assessment is done individually, and I have been using station times to do it.  I also used yesterday afternoon to test as well.  I need this data to plan for the rest of the year and for your child's report card.

*Math Survey will be due Friday.

*Please let me know if your child will be missing school on Friday or will be delayed in returning from vacation.

Have a great week.
Peace,
Tom

Good Afternoon, Today was our first day working with the artists from Bread and Puppet. The students worked on making bird masks and wings for Thursday's performance. The kids really seemed to enjoy today's project. We will meet two more times next week. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Peace, Tom

Good Morning,

Tomorrow is the start of our Bread and Puppet Artist in Residency program.  I want to thank the PTA and the Arts Committee for their efforts in providing our students another year of the residency program.  We are quite fortunate that their is so many offerings for our children and this is yet another example of this.  This year the residency focus will be around community.  This focus will fit nicely with our current study of local history.  Our class is scheduled to meet with the artists on the following dates and times:  Friday the 17th @1:30-2:15, Monday the 20th @8:15-9:00, and Wednesday the 22nd @ 8:15-9:00.  There will be a final presentation on Thursday the 23rd in the afternoon.

Please make sure to turn in your child's timeline information by the end of the week.  We will be using this information on Monday of next week.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day.

Peace,
Tom

Good Evening,

We had a fun day today with a lot of productivity. This morning we wrote in our Weekly News journals. A lot of the kids chose to write about the book that we used during stations this week. Please make sure to write back to your child over the weekend. We will read the comments during our meeting on Monday. I also used an iPad during our meeting. We did a sight word activity and then showed them the application called Photo Booth. You can see some of the funny photos below. We did finish our timeline about the school's history today. Next Tuesday, we will be joined by Kay and teach the kids how to turn the hard copy into an interactive timeline.

 INDIVIDUAL TIMELINE PROJOECTS:
I am asking that you sit with your child and identify 5-8 major events that have happened in your child's life.  Each timeline will start with the child's birthday.  Once you have identified the events, write them down and send them in.  If you have any photos (digital/traditional) of the event please send them in.  I can scan any non digital photos and return the originals.  We only need 1 photo per event.  If you don't have photos, please don't worry.  We want the kids to draw at least one of the photos, and also find a generic picture online.  This will help us teach the kids a variety of 21st Century technology skills that are part of our curriculum.  Eventually the timelines will be available for you to view and make comments on.  In other words, you could add a comment about your family trip to Washington DC.  I would like the 5 events identified and turned in by Wednesday of next week.  We will be using these events in our classroom work, so please be prompt with this.  I thin it will be a fun project.

Valentine's Day:
Several of the kids have asked about bringing in cards for Valentine's Day.  I am fine with the card concept but I am going to keep the event quite simple.  We will have a time to pass out cards during stations.  We won't have an actual "party."  Below is a list of names.

Tela, Amy, Brooke, Hannah, Azailea, Emma, Rachel, Tyler, Gabe, Beckett, Arianna, Lillian, Claudia, Nina, Jonas, Jordan, Emery, Caleb,

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Peace,
Tom

Good Morning,
The new math homework is in each child's bag.  If you need a new set of cards, please let me know.  Today we had stations, music and French.  The early release day is certainly a quick morning.  During stations the kids painted their characters from the story Art and Max, worked on a issue of Time For Kids, practiced their sight words, and met with me for reading.

  Have a great day.

Peace,
Tom

Good Afternoon,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  Just a reminder that this Wednesday is an early release day.  During our Morning Meeting, we read aloud the comments that parents wrote in the Weekly News Journals.  After meeting we had Fundations, PE, Stations and math.

I usually put together the math homework games during lunch/recess and library.  Today, we had a Lower Unit meeting during our lunch/recess time.  Unfortunately, I didn't have time to get the games together.  I will do this after school tomorrow and send them home on Wednesday.  The game surveys  won't be due until February 24th.  This way you will have plenty of time to do them and it will take us right into vacation.

I hope you have a wonderful week.

Tom

Good Afternoon,
This morning we finished up our stories about our best friends, had our spelling tests, and caught up on unfinished work for the week.  This afternoon we had math and art.  We also had our third attempt at a class picture retake.  Unfortunately we still didn't have everyone.  Maybe next year.

Yesterday, Mr. Hubbard's class joined us as we started working on our timeline of the Waitsfield Elementary School.  We will meet again on Tuesday to finish the work and then, teach them how to take the paper copy and turn it into an interactive timeline using Voice Thread.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Peace,
Tom
