Good Afternoon,

Two things to take note of before vacation starts:

1.  Our PBIS celebration has been moved to Thursday instead of Friday.  The weather forecast for Thursday was much more favorable and made the decision rather easy.  We will eat lunch at 11:00 tomorrow and start the festivities right around noon.

2.  READ TO FEED:  Please remember to finish filling out your child's reading log for the Read to Feed Challenge.  They are due the Friday that we get back from vacation.  The money should be sent too.  This will be the last reminder sent before vacation.  I am sending a paper copy of this home (today) as well.

Could you also let us know where each sponsor lives.  I want to map where each sponsor came from.  This way the students will be sable to see who their message reached out beyond our school community.

We have received almost $200.00 of sponsorships from as far away as Arizona, Washington Dc, and Atlanta.

Have a great break!

Peace,
Tommy

Good Morning,
I hope people took advantage of all of the snow and enjoyed the three day weekend.  Amazingly enough, none of my flights were even delayed between the two storms.

Today, the students passed out their Valentine's, I tested started testing each student's reading level, the students took a spelling assessment, and we finished out Pen Pal letters.  We also had music and PE for specials.

Notes:

*The math survey (1st grade) will go home today.  I will not be sending home a new math game until after vacation.  Please fill out the math survey and return it tomorrow.

*There is no Winter Sports Program this week.

*We are scheduled to have the PBIS recognition event on Friday afternoon.  The plan is to have snow sculpting, sledding and a horse a sled ride.  We will be starting just after noon on Friday (weather permitting).

I hope you have a great week.

Peace,
Tommy

Good Morning,
On Monday, we received a note form a classroom in Arizona.  The teacher had told their students about our Read to Feed Project and the class sent us a donation of $20.  We will start to keep track (using a map) of where our donations come from.  We will also map where each of the kids sponsorships came from too.  This way they can see how their message reached beyond the Waitsfield Community.

Just a reminder that I am out on Friday.  Katie Kenny will once again be the substitute.  The children spoke highly of her and seemed to enjoy their time with her last week.

*I will be testing students reading ability on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week.  I will do this during our Reader's Workshop time.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Peace,
Tommy

Good Morning,
I hope you all had a great weekend.  I had a wonderful time in DC and enjoyed the opportunity to present to some incredible teachers and the NEA Foundation Board.

This week we will continue to look at the Characteristics of Non Fiction texts. The idea is that the students will write their own Non Fiction book at the end of the unit.

This week we will have our WInter Sports Program on Wednesday and a PBIS assembly on Thursday morning at 7:50.

I hope you have a great week.

Peace,
Tommy

February 5, 2014

Good Afternoon,
Today we talked about the white stuff that was falling from the sky.  It has been so long since we have seen a steady snow, that many seemed confused!  In all seriousness, it was good to see it coming down and the kids seemed excited about it.

Today we had PE and Reader's Workshop.  I also gave the 2nd graders their monthly dictation assessment (spelling).  The students all have reading homework tonight.  Speaking of which, your child may choose to bring home reading over the weekend (it is not mandatory).  If he/she does, please make sure to send back all of the books on Monday.

As a reminder, I will be out on Thursday and Friday.  The substitute and I met today and things are set up as normal as could be.  Since I am away, I will not be writing, on the blog this Friday.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Peace,
Tommy

Good Morning,
Today marks the first day that students are required to record their reading in the Read to Feed log.  Remember, this is in place of the weekly reading log.  If anyone feels their child could use help with getting a sponsor, could you please let me know.  Feel free to send me and email or call me at school.

We will be starting components of Non Fiction Writing this week.  We will also be looking at character traits during Reader's Workshop.

Notes:

*1st Graders have a game survey in their homework bags.  Please complete it and send it back tomorrow.  A new game will be sent home on Tuesday.

*Wednesday is and Early Release Day.

*Reminder that I will be out of the classroom on Thursday and Friday.  Katie Kenny will be the substitute.

Have a great week.

Peace,
Tommy
