Good Afternoon,
Ms. Hines stopped by with her baby today.  They are both doing well and looking forward to visiting from time to time.  This morning we had an assembly, quickly wrote in our Weekly News journals and then went to the computer lab to work on our timelines.  After that we had a science lesson focused on developing an understanding of properties.

I hope you have a great weekend.
Peace,
Tom

Good Morning,
This morning the students had both music and French.  Mr. Hill was out today so Ms. Hughes was the music sub.  After our specials, we had our reading group and station time.  We have switched the station routine (a few weeks ago).  Ask your child what he/she thinks of it.  During this time, the students had to work on a variety of language arts activities and meet with me for their reading group.  This afternoon, we will be headed to the lab to work on our timelines.

I hope you have a great day.

Peace,
Tom

Good Morning,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed your family time.  I spent the weekend working around the house, watching some basketball, and playing with our kids.

This week we will start a new science unit.  The focus will be the states of matter.  Our curriculum asks us to focus on liquids and solids, but we will be exploring the third state of gas as well.  This unit will bring back the use of our science notebooks, and offer 7 or 8 different inquiry opportunities.  It should be a fun unit.

*There is a new math game in your child's homework bag.
*Boots and sneakers/shoes are a requirement.  Until the ground has dried up, please pack both.

I hope you have a great week.

Peace,
Tom

Good Morning,
This morning we were treated to several small fable skits performed by Mr. McCallister's class.  They were quite humorous and taught us many valuable lessons.  After assembly we wrote in our Weekly News.  I asked the kids to focus on their pen-pal projects.  Hopefully you will learn about them through your child's entry.  We finished the morning with a visit to the computer lab to work on our timelines and spent more time on our final drafts of our pen-pal letters.  This afternoon we had math and art.

*Please make sure your child has a sweatshirt or fleece for the classroom.  I do  like to open the windows and the room does get cool.

*Your child needs sneakers on Mondays and Thursdays.  We have gym on these days and sneakers are a PE expectation.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Peace,
Tom

Good Morning,
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and had a chance to enjoy the lovely weather.  I also hope you found the parent conferences to be informative and productive.  I really do enjoy doing them and having the chance to touch base with each of you.  As always, if you still have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Today, we started our replies to our pen-pals in Waterbury.  It has been a while since their last response, and the kids were excited to get their letters.  The students used a prewriting template that focused on identifying questions that were asked by their pen-pal, outlining two events that he/she wanted to write about in his/her response, and identifying two response questions.  We hope to have a final draft by the end of the week.

*NEW BOOK LOG is in your child's reading bag.  Please return the bag and books each day.

*Early Release Day on Wednesday.  I will be at a district math meeting in the morning.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Peace,
Tom

Good Morning!  We have wonderful news from Ms. Hines.  Over the weekend she had a baby boy.  His name is Charles, and both mom and the baby are doing well.  She hopes to stop by the class at some point.

I am thinking this might be the last ski/snowboarding day of the year.  The kids will be heading to Sugarbush South today.

Please remember that we will be heading to the playhouse tomorrow afternoon.  It looks like we should have nice weather to walk over in,

**Your child may want to bring in a fleece or sweatshirt to leave in the classroom.

Peace,
Tom

Good Morning,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  There are a few things that are going on this week.  Please, make sure to make note of the following.

*Report cards will be going home tomorrow.  Please look through your child's report card and bring it with you to the conference.  If possible, I would like your child to come to the conference, but it is not mandatory.

*Parent Conferences are Thursday evening and Friday morning.  If you haven't signed up, please do so immediately.  If you are having trouble. please let me know.

*Remember there is no school on Friday.

*There will be reading homework and a new math game this week.  The reading logs will be due on Thursday and the game surveys will be due a week from Friday.

After assessing each child's reading ability, I have changed the way stations will be done.  The children will still have a variety of tasks to complete during reading group time, but they will get to choose the order for with they complete them.  This will give me a chance to add another group and better help me meet each child's instructional need.

I hope you have a great week.
Peace,
Tom

Don't forget to set your clocks forward over the weekend.

Good Afternoon,
I hope everyone had a wonderful vacation.  It was fun to hear the variety of stories and experiences the kids shared.  Today we read a story about town meetings and talked about why we had yesterday off.  The kids will bring home their copy of the story on Friday.  We had stations this morning and a kick math class in the afternoon.  Then the kids headed to the mountain for some fun in the sun.  Please don't forget to sign up for your parent conference slot.

Peace,
Tom
