January 5, 2011

Good Morning,
This week we have been visiting New York City.  On Monday, we read the story Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold.  This book focuses on the beauty of the NY City lights and the George Washington Bridge.  We also looked into the celebration of New Year's Eve in Times Square.  We explored the official site of the celebration and watched a You Tube clip of the event.  The students are currently writing about the events that go with this annual tradition.

Everyone was prepared for their day of skiing.  Great job and kudos to everyone.  I am hoping they have a great first day.  During ski days, we have to change our schedule a bit.  If we added up the ski days and Early Release days the students would miss close to 16 math classes.  This would prevent us from finishing the program and put your kids at a disadvantage when compared to the other second graders.  So, we will have math from 10:30-11:30 on ski days and then go to lunch.  There is no recess on these days and the only thing that will be cancelled is spelling.

I hope you have a great day.
Peace,
Tom
